Oscars 2015: The Best and Worst in Fashion

The 87th Academy Awards is officially over. New winners have been crowned and will retain their bragging rights until next year’s event. While the Oscar’s caps off a wonderful year in film, it is undoubtedly one of the biggest fashion shows in the world as well. Where else can you find a gathering of the biggest film stars on the planet all wearing designer dresses and suits? Only in LA.

The Best

  • Julianne Moore – She went home with the long-awaited Best Actress trophy (fifth time’s a charm) and also emerged a fashion winner. For this event, Ms Moore went with a white Chanel dress. But it wasn’t just any white number – the dress featured 80,000 hand-painted resin sequins and flowers and took 27 people around 987 hours to complete. A gown fit for a winner, right?

  • Rosamund Pike – Nominated for her rage as Amy Dunn in blockbuster hit Gone Girl, Pike made mention that she was the sole flag-bearer of the film and that she felt alone. While it’s true – as the Academy for some strange reason didn’t nominate Gone Girl for notable awards, the most erroneous of which was the adapted screenplay honors – Pike looked stunning in red. The gown by Givenchy featured waist-cinching details, as well as rose-petal-like embroidery. It was one of her best looks during the awards season.

  • Jennifer Aniston – Snubbed for her portrayal in the film Cake, Rachel from Friends didn’t seem to mind at all as she showed up in a stunning Versace Atelier number. The dress highlighted Ms Aniston’s curves and the nude color fit well with her minimalist style.

The Worst

  • Emma Stone – While some loved the chartreuse-colored gown from Elie Saab on Stone, it really wasn’t a good look. The heavy lace and sequins just didn’t fit in well for a lady of Stone’s age.

  • Chloe Moretz – Just like Emma Stone, the silk taffeta Miu Miu number with peach embroidery just didn’t mesh well with the age of the actress.

  • Naomi Watts – There’s no question she’s gorgeous, but the dress just looked odd. The Giorgio Armani outfit featured graphic embroidery and an athletic-looking black bra detail.

The Oscar’s ceremony wasn’t all that great (sorry, NPH), but at least the fashion was a balance of some good and bad choices.
