How to Choose Eyeglass Frames the Complements Your Face

You can try on every pair of eyeglasses you can get your hands on to find out how each one looks, or you can spare yourself the trouble and save a lot of time by simply determining your face shape and coloring, and determining which eyeglass frames and colors would look best on you.

Basically, there are three main points to consider when matching eyeglass frames to face shapes, according to The Vision Council of America. The first point is that the eyewear you choose should repeat your personal best features. For example, blue frames to match blue eyes. Second is that the shape of the frame should be in contrast with the shape of your face. In other words, avoid square-framed eyeglasses if you have a well-defined jaw line. And third, the size of the frame should be in scale with the size of your face; not too large or too small.

Now, let us check out which types of frames work each for the basic face shapes.

eyegalsses frames

This is considered to be the ideal shape because of its balanced proportions. If you have this face shape, look for eyeglass frames that are as wide or wider than the broadest part of your face in order to maintain the oval’s natural balance.

An oblong face is a bit longer than it is wide. Frames that have more depth and decorative and contrasting temples are perfect for making an oblong face appear shorter.

This face shape is marked by a strong jaw line and a broad forehead. The width and length of the face is almost in the same proportion. Narrow, oval frames can soften the angles and make the face appear longer.

Base-Up Triangle

This refers to those with wide top third and small bottom third.  Frames that are wider at the bottom and have very light color (and maybe rimless) are perfect for this shape.

A round face has width and length in almost the same proportions and has no angles. Try narrow eyeglass frames to make this appear thinner and longer, and choose one with a clear bridge to widen the distance between eyes.

Some people wear eyeglasses for fashion while others to correct vision. Regardless of the reason, make sure to choose eyeglass frames that complement the shape of your face.
