Gluten is a protein detected in wheat, rye, barley, oats and consequently to food these ingredients, such as bread, cakes, cookies, pasta, and sauces. In one group of people, it creates intense intolerance, celiac or otherwise gluten enteropathy. The gluten in food leads to destruction of the intestinal mucosa, which in turn creates stomach intestinal disorders. Symptoms of celiac disease vary from person to person and are associated with malabsorption of food, which causes severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, intestinal colic, fatigue, headache, weight loss.

In cosmetics, the gluten is used as a binder, promoting bonding of components together. Gluten and its derivatives in cosmetic products is very common. An outstanding example is Vitamin E. Much of Vitamin E is used in cosmetics derived from wheat, which, as mentioned, contains gluten. Some people are highly sensitivity and exhibit allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, bleeding, discomfort and itchy eyes. The intensity and duration of symptoms will vary from person to person. Symptoms may occur after swallowing even a small amount of cosmetic substance. Generally, the gluten can not be absorbed or even to directly penetrate the skin.

In conclusion we would say that, as long as the gluten is detected frequently in cosmetics circulating widely in the market, choosing gluten free cosmetics, could improve the quality of life of people with celiac disease. Remember that each entity in its own sensitivities to certain external factors, such as cosmetics, food, environment, etc. For this reason caution in the choice of cosmetic products, always follow the guidance of experts.
